Things to do in Anchorage Alaska

Dog Sledding is not only an Alaskan tradition, but it's also a state competition which is celebrated every March with the running of the 1,150 mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race from Anchorage to Nome. Visitors can experience a dog sledding excursion with opportunities to see what it's like, meet some Iditarod racers and their dogs, and to hear details of what it is like to run this brutal race. You may even get to experience dog sledding first- hand. Anchorage offers dog sledding tours which include touring the kennels, seeing how the dogs are trained and holding their puppies.
